Note: This tutorial uses Corel Photopaint, The steps might also be applicable for other programs but the keys and name of the tools might be different. First open up the photo which we are going to give an extreme make-over. Go to the menu file> open then locate the photo.
note: make it a habit to duplicate the layer you are going to edit so that you can go back if in case you ever made a mistake. To duplicate the layers, first open the objects docker. To do this, in the menu go to window>dockers>objects or just simply press Crtl+F7. The Object Docker in the right sidebar should open. Now, Right-Click the "Background" layer then select "Duplicate Selected". A new layer should appear and this is the layer we will be working on.
There are several ways to do this, I will point out several methods in future tutorials which can be applied to a variety of situations limited only to your imagination. If after one method the results are already satisfactory, there is no need to proceed to do the other methods.
First Method - The Clone Stamp Tool Select the Clone Stamp Tool by clicking the icon in the Toolbox or by pressing the C key.
Right-click the mouse to set the origin, a cross hair will appear in the area where you right-clicked. Select an area of the face which is clear or unblemished (in this case, right next to one of the blemishes). Now wherever you left-click and drag around, it will replace with the ones with the area of the cross hair. You can resize the clone area by pressing shift + left-click drag down to decrease and shift + left-click drag up to increase.
note: press F2 to zoom in on the picture and F3 to zoom out.
here is the nose partially cleaned.
Second method - The Touch-up brush tool (available in Corel Photopaint 12 and X3) To further smoothen the skin we can use the Touch-up brush by clicking the icon in the Toolbox or by pressing the 7 key. This tool automatically smooths the area where you will left-click and drag. you can adjust the strength from very low to very high. I suggest try medium first. You can also resize area by pressing shift + left-click drag down to decrease and shift + left-click drag up to increase.
