Featured Artist for the week - Kharisma Ryantori

Real Name: Kharisma Ryantori

Please tell us a brief info about yourself.

i'm an Chinese girl who was born and grew up in Surabaya, Indonesia. After graduated from college in 2004, i tried a couple of times working in graphic companies but i didn't feel that corporate life was for me so i quit. Here i am now a freelancer who's in love with an American and trying to find ways to be together with him <3When did you first decide to become a graphic artist / illustrator?
my goal after i finished High School was NOT to take any major that has math in it. so graphic it is. it suit my talent as well :3 about being an illustrator, i did drawing/painting when i was a kid and the will to try came after I joined Mangarevolution.com in 2005, because I happened to be friends with the founder, and I didn't want to leave my gallery there empty. The rest is history.

Who or what inspires you?
no one or things in particular. but i did study Maxfield Parrish and the American Imagists book when i want to do something more classic.

Where does your training come from? Self-taught? College/Art School?
i've been lucky to have supportive parents. so i got some artistic training (traditional media) from either art clubs or private teachers when i was a kid. i used markers and oil pastels in younger age (those were childish drawings, lol), and then moved on to graphite and oils when i grew up. College got me into graphic and digital painting was a self taught after i graduated. didn't learn it in school.

How do you keep "fresh" within your industry?
internet helps. but i try to keep experimenting from time to time.

What are some of your current projects?
making logos, painting commissions, and painting for a contest, and also jewelry making.

Which of your projects are you the most proud of? And why?
probably the Happy Anniversary pic i did not a while ago. i still like that picture up until now, i like the style i used and it's featuring me and my fiance :3

Are there any areas, techniques, mediums, projects in your field that you have yet to try?
watercolor is my everest! ......which i don't intend to conquer. yet xD

What do you do to keep yourself motivated and avoid burn-out?
i got that a lot. so i can't say i have any recipe XD

Finish this sentence. "If I weren't an artist/illustrator I would have been a...
... dead cat"

and finally, What advices/tips can you give to the novice designer/ illustrator?
practice is the key of success.
